Site Preparation in the Mid-Ohio Valley

Before a single wall goes up, the ground underneath has to be right. We turn raw, uneven land into a stable, foundation-ready building pad that drains and holds up for decades.

What site preparation actually includes

Site prep is more than moving dirt; each step sets up the next. We walk your lot, confirm the layout against your plans, then clear what's in the way, strip the soft topsoil, and cut and fill to bring the ground to grade. The result is a level, compacted surface ready for concrete, block, or a pole barn.

Because our ground runs heavy on clay, the order matters. Work the pad when the soil is too wet and you compact the problem in instead of out. We watch the weather and the moisture in the dirt, and we schedule the heavy work so it actually holds.

Building pads and foundation excavation

A new home or building is only as stable as the pad under it. We cut the building pad to spec, dig the footers and foundation, and grade the lot so surface water runs away from the structure instead of toward it. On the ridge and hillside lots around the Mid-Ohio Valley, that often means balancing a cut into the slope against fill at the low end, then compacting in lifts so it never settles unevenly.

We handle residential, commercial, and agricultural new builds the same way: get the pad flat and firm, get the drainage right, and leave the lot ready for the next trade.

What shapes your cost and schedule

  • How much clearing and tree work the lot needs before grading.
  • Access for equipment — a tight lane or steep entry slows every load.
  • What's under the surface: clay holds water, and shale or sandstone means blasting or slow digging.
  • Haul distance if soil has to leave the site or fill has to come in.

Nail these down early and a site prep job runs on a predictable schedule. We tell you up front what we're seeing so there are no surprises once boots hit the ground.

Common questions about site prep

Do I need my plans ready before you start?

It helps, but it isn't required. If you have architectural or engineering plans we grade to them; if not, we can work from your lot layout and help you sort out what the build needs.

How long does site preparation take?

Most residential lots take a matter of days once clearing is done and weather cooperates. Clearing, rock, and access are what stretch a schedule, so we'll give you a clear timeline after seeing the site.

Can you prep a lot on a hillside?

Yes. Hillside and ridge lots are common here. We cut and fill to create a level pad, compact in lifts, and manage drainage so the slope works with the build.

What if the soil is mostly clay or rock?

That changes the approach and equipment, not the outcome. We identify it on a site visit and explain what it means for your job before we dig.
