Excavation & Site Prep in Marietta, Ohio

From river-bottom lots off the Muskingum and Ohio to steep hillside acreage above the valley floor, we handle excavation and site prep for homeowners and landowners throughout Marietta and Washington County.

Digging in ground that fights back

Marietta sits where the Muskingum runs into the Ohio, and that meeting of rivers shapes nearly every lot here. Down near the water the ground is silt and clay over a high water table, so we first figure out how deep we can go before water becomes an issue. On the hillsides the opposite problem shows up: thin soil over shale and sandstone, not much topsoil to work with.

Before we move ground we walk the site with you, looking at how water runs across it, where rock sits close to the surface, and how equipment can get in. That sets the order of work — what gets stripped and stockpiled first, where spoils go, and how we keep the street and the neighbors' yard clean while we're in and out.

Clearing land and grading lots, start to finish

Most land clearing in Marietta starts with trees and underbrush, then moves to stumps and roots. We cut, pile, and haul it off so you're left with usable ground rather than brush to burn later. On a wooded hillside lot, clearing and rough grading go hand in hand, because pulling stumps on a slope changes how the ground drains.

For new builds we do the full site prep sequence: rough grade to the right height, cut and fill so water runs away from the structure, and a compacted building area that stays true. We serve the city, Devola, Reno, and the townships around Waterford and Lowell the same way — the process doesn't change, only the ground under it does.

Questions we hear around Marietta

Do you work on the West Virginia side of the river?

Yes. We serve the Mid-Ohio Valley on both sides of the Ohio, so if your project is in Parkersburg or Wood County we'll cross for it — see our Parkersburg page.

How do you handle a river-bottom lot with a high water table?

We check how close water is to the surface before we cut, then grade so surface water runs away from the build. On truly wet ground we may raise the pad or add drainage so water has somewhere to go.

Can your equipment reach a lot off a narrow lane?

Usually, yes. Older in-town lots sometimes have tight access, so we bring in smaller machines when we need to and plan our in-and-out route ahead of time to protect fences and pavement.

What if you hit rock while digging?

Shale and sandstone are common in these hills, and we expect them. We'll tell you the moment we find it and work out the best way through so the job stays on plan.
